We brought the horses from the rugged valleys
Grass tempts them there, the meadows allure them
We guided them down from the plateau for seven nights
Smooth as if its surface was made of leather
They stayed for two nights in the valley of Mu'an
Then clouds followed the pause that came after
We rejoiced, the steeds were branded
Breathed out poison through their nostrils
No, by my refuge they will come for her
Though around are Arabs and Romans
We loaded their gear, and they came
Glowering, their dust to them a cloak
With smooth flanks, as if whiteness lies in them
When their lanterns, the stars, shine forth
Satisfied with life, they roam freely
Their tongues marry or spurn as they wish
