Ḥassān has indeed tasted what he deserved,
Hassan, who deserved it, truly tasted
as did Ḥamna and Misṭaḥ, when they uttered foul speech.
The pain, when they said outrageous, vile things.
They assailed their Prophet’s wife with conjectures about the unseen,
They dared throw stones at their prophet’s wife,
and earned the wrath of the noble Lord of the Throne, and so were plunged into grief.
Inciting the wrath of the noble Throne on high.
They harmed the Messenger of God through that affair, and were engulfed
They hurt God’s messenger - may they be shamed!
in lasting disgraces; they were turbaned with them and exposed.
Disgraced, their shameful deeds spread far and wide.
And cutting verses were poured down upon them as though they were
Their crops were destroyed, as if a downpour
torrents of rain streaming from the cloudbanks’ heights.
Of sparks from flint was raining from the skies.
