How enviable you are, by God
With your glance, spirit, and stature
Your eyes are the eyes of a gazelle
And your hair is black as the night
Your smile a string of pearls
Would that I could thread them
I am alone in rhyming
While you are unmatched in beauty
Why this aloofness
And estrangement, O sweet and cold one
How many nights I stayed up
Saying: O star, bear witness
That I am sick with longing for him
And that I envy him
And that he is shy
And I am patient
And whenever I intend to abandon
His estrangement, he threatens anew
And when alone with myself
I find it rebelling
I say: O soul, have patience
For his door is not barred
I say this while my heart
Burns with agony
My wish tomorrow is you
But yesterday and tomorrow are the same
You are the shrine of my heart
So wherever you are it bows down
