  1. يا شادي البان ما أشجاك أشجانا

    إن الذي أسقاك الشوق أسقانا

    O Shadi Al-Ban, what grief has made you so sad?

    Indeed, whoever gave you longing has also given us longing.

  2. كأس من الصاب والآلام مترعة

    من لي بكأس إليها كنت ظمآنا

    A cup brimming with separation and pain,

    I wish I had a cup to quench my thirst.

  3. كأس من الوصل أضحى من ترشفها

    قرير عين بمن يهواه نشوانا

    A cup of reunion, whoever sips from it,

    His eyes shine joyfully for his beloved.

  4. إن أنس لا أنس يوما قلت يا أملي

    متى تجود بوصل قلت لي: الآنا

    One day I said, “O my hope, when

    Will you generously grant me reunion?” You said: “Now.”

  5. أسقاني الوجد من حرى مراشفه

    وما ارتويت وأضحى القلب سكرانا

    Longing made me drink from the heat of its passion,

    Yet I was not sated, and my heart got drunk.

  6. حين انتهينا وطيف الحب ثالثنا

    وأعين البدر من علياه ترعانا

    When we were done, and the specter of love was third between us,

    The eyes of the full moon watched over us from above.

  7. همنا بآفاق حب لا حدود لها

    وبثنا الشوق إشفاقا وتحنانا

    We dreamed of bounds of love that have no limits,

    And we scattered longing and tenderness.

  8. أنساني الوصل ما لاقيت من زمني

    في سالف العهد آلاما وهجرانا

    Reunion made me forget the pain

    Of past times of suffering and estrangement.

  9. يا مبعث الطهر يا أصل الجمال ألا

    أرجو من الدهر إرجاع الذي كانا

    O source of purity, O essence of beauty!

    I hope time will restore what we once had.

  10. لا تستمع للذي قد قال خانكم

    فإن في قوله زورا وبهتانا

    Do not listen to the one who said he betrayed you,

    For his words are lies and slander.

  11. مهما يزور فإني ما سلوتكمو

    وكيف يسلى زمان الحب مذ كانا

    No matter his lies, I never doubted you,

    How can the time of love be doubted since it began?

  12. وما يزال منى روحي وبغيتها

    ومن يحب فؤاد عاد أسوانا

    My soul still yearns for you and wants you,

    And whoever loves a heart returns contrite.
