I adjure ʿUthmān ibn Ṭalḥa by our pact—
I call upon Uthman ibn Talha, our oaths were shattered,
though the stars’ fairest aspect is to him like an evil omen—
The stars' paths for him were inauspicious omens,
and by every covenant our forefathers bound;
No pact the fathers tied was like his undoing,
Khalid is not released from any covenant like it.
None like Khalid violated such a bond,
So never trust Khalid after this;
Do not feel safe with Khalid after this,
ʿUthmān has brought on the dark, intractable calamity.
Uthman came with shaded spears brandished.
