تَتَالَتْfollowed one another دَقَائِقُهُits minutes مُطْمَئِنَّهْtranquil
تَتَالَتْ دَقَائِقُهُ مُطْمَئِنَّهْ
وَفَرَّتْand fled وَمَرَّتْand passed كَبَرْقِlike the flash of الأَسِنَّهْthe spearheads
وَفَرَّتْ وَمَرَّتْ كَبَرْقِ الأَسِنَّهْ
Its minutes followed one another in peace,
And fled and passed like the flash of spearheads.
لَهُto it وَقْعُهُits impact وَلَهُand to it لَمْعُهُits gleam
لَهُ وَقْعُهُ وَلَهُ لَمْعُهُ
أَفَانِينُvaried forms: فَيْضٌoutpouring وَفَرْضٌand religious obligation وَسُنَّهْand Prophetic tradition
أَفَانِينُ: فَيْضٌ وَفَرْضٌ وَسُنَّهْ
It has its impact, and it has its gleam.
Varied forms: outpouring, obligation, and Prophetic tradition.
وَكُلٌّand each وَهِمَّتُهُand his aspiration وَالتَّجَلِّيand divine manifestation
وَكُلٌّ وَهِمَّتُهُ وَالتَّجَلِّي
مَشَاعٌopen to all، وَلِلَّهِand to God فَضْلٌbounty وَمِنَّهْand grace
مَشَاعٌ، وَلِلَّهِ فَضْلٌ وَمِنَّهْ
And each has his aspiration; divine manifestation
is open to all; to God belong bounty and grace.
فَمَنْso whoever كَانَwas فِيin قَلْبِهِhis heart نُورُهُHis light
فَمَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ نُورُهُ
سَمَاrose وَنَمَاand grew فِيin لَيَالِيnights of المَظِنَّهْexpectation
سَمَا وَنَمَا فِي لَيَالِي المَظِنَّهْ
So whoever had His light within his heart
rose and grew in the nights of expectation.
وَمَنْand whoever كَانَwas فِيin القَلْبِthe heart دَيْجُورُهُhis deep darkness
وَمَنْ كَانَ فِي القَلْبِ دَيْجُورُهُ
سَأَلْنَاwe asked لَهُfor him اللَّهَGod كَشْفَthe lifting of الدُّجُنَّهْthe gloom
سَأَلْنَا لَهُ اللَّهَ كَشْفَ الدُّجُنَّهْ
And whoever had his darkness within the heart,
we asked God to lift the gloom for him.
