Babylon
Yours is what you wished, so I will not ask
You may do as you please, I shall not question
how the weddings of Babylon ended.
How the revels of Babylon ended
حسبيenough for me مررتI passed بخاطرthrough the mind of النعمىbliss
هـنـيـهـاتbrief moments قــلائـلa few
It is enough for me that I passed through the mind of bliss
It is enough I once tasted bliss
for a few brief moments.

كـمhow often قـلتهاI said it لكto you ماas long as حييتI lived وand

كـمhow often خـتمتI concluded بهاwith it الرسائلthe letters
How often I said it to you throughout my life, and
How often I told you while I lived
how often I closed the letters with it.
And concluded my letters with it
أنـاI مـاnot حقدتI bore a grudge علىagainst الشفاهthe lips
ولاand not عـتبتI found fault عـلىwith الأناملthe fingertips
I bore no grudge against the lips,
I never resented your lips
nor did I reproach the fingertips.
Or blamed your fingers

What you wanted, nor try

وتركتand I left للطيرfor the birds السنابلthe ears of grain
Indeed, I have cast away my sickle
I have cast aside my sickle
and left the ears of grain for the birds.
And left the grain for the birds
