وَإِنِّيand indeed I لَضَرَّابٌsurely a mighty striker إِذاwhen الْخَيْلُthe horses أَحْجَمَتْdrew back
بِسَيْفِيَwith my sword رَبَّthe wearer of الْقَوْنَسِthe helmet الْمُتَوَقِّدِgleaming
And indeed I strike hard when the horses draw back,
with my sword at the wearer of the gleaming helmet.
وَكُنْتُand I would إِذاwhen ماever (emphatic) أَرْجَفَتْit shook بِيbeneath me تَرَكْتُهاI left it
لِغَيْرِيto someone other than me وَلَمْand did not أَقْعُدْsit عَلَىupon غَيْرِother than مَقْعَدِa seat
And whenever it shook beneath me, I would leave it
to another, and would not sit upon an unfit seat.
