وَيَومٍand many a day كَتَنّورِlike the oven of الإِمامِthe imam سَجَرنَهُthey (fem.) stoked it
وَأَلقَينَand they (fem.) threw فيهِinto it الجَزلَthick firewood حَتّىuntil تَضَرَّماit blazed up
And many a day like the imam’s oven, which they had stoked
and fed with thick firewood until it blazed,
رَمَيتُI hurled بِنَفسيwith myself فيinto أَجيجِthe blaze of سمومِهِits scorching wind
وَبِالعَنسِand with the sturdy she-camel حَتّىuntil صَبَّpoured مَنسِمُهاher footpad دَماblood
I hurled myself into the blaze of its scorching wind,
and the sturdy she-camel, until her footpad streamed blood.
