أَسِجناًimprisonment? وَقَيداًand fetters وَاِغتِراباًand exile وَفُرقَةًand separation
أَسِجناً وَقَيداً وَاِغتِراباً وَفُرقَةً
وَذِكرىand remembrance of حَبيبٍa beloved إِنindeed ذاthis لَعظيمُsurely grievous
وَذِكرى حَبيبٍ إِن ذا لَعظيمُ
Imprisonment, fetters, exile, and separation,
Imprisonments and shackles and exile and separation
and remembrance of a beloved? This is grievous indeed.
And memories of a beloved - truly mighty
وَإِنَّand indeed اِمرأًa man دامَتendured مَواثيقُpledges عَهدِهِhis covenant
وَإِنَّ اِمرأً دامَت مَواثيقُ عَهدِهِ
عَلىdespite مِثلِthe like of ماwhat لاstart of لاقيتُهُ: I encountered it قَيتُهُcompletion of لاقيتُهُ: I encountered it لَكَريمُtruly noble
عَلى مِثلِ ما لا قَيتُهُ لَكَريمُ
And surely a man whose covenant’s pledges endure
And a man whose pacts and covenants endure
despite the like of what I have suffered is truly noble.
Is as excellent as I have known him to be generous
