A red she-camel with a towering hump, as though she were
Red-hued camel, fully adorned,
A male camel laden with its owners' howdah.
As if she's a camel bearing her family's belongings,
جادَتgave generously بِهاwith her عِندَat الوَداعِparting يَمينُهُhis right hand
كِلتاboth يَدَيtwo hands of عُمرUmar الغَداةَthis morning يَمينُa right hand
His right hand gave her generously at parting;
He bid her farewell with his right hand -
Both of Umar's hands this morning are right hands.
Like both hands of mighty youth at dawn.
تَاللَّهِby God أَعطىgave مِثلَهاher like فيat مِثلِهِits like

By God, none has given her like at such a parting
By God! None would give its equal for its equal,
Except a man of noble disposition—or a madman.
Except the generous man or the madman.
