Sol 6.1

  1. هوّن عليك فإن الرزق مقسوم

    والعمر في اللوح محدود ومعلوم

    Be easy on yourself, for sustenance is allotted,

    and life's span is fixed and known upon the Tablet.

  2. ومحجم كان في الإحجام مهلكه

    له الشقاء وفي الدارين محروم

    And one who held back found his ruin in holding back;

    misery is his, and he is deprived in both worlds.

  3. إن الجبان وإن جلت منازله

    وزاد في عيشه فضل وتنعيم

    The coward, though his stations be exalted,

    and plenty and luxury increase in his life,

  4. مثل السمين من الأنعام يذبح إن

    أرضاهم سمنه والشبه مفهوم

    is like a fattened beast among the livestock, slaughtered if

    its fatness pleases them—the likeness is clear.

  5. فكن هماما تذيب الصخر سطوته

    وبأسه منه صرف الدهر مظلوم

    So be a valiant man whose might melts rock,

    and whose valor leaves the vicissitudes of time oppressed.

  6. والبس صفات أبي عيسى لتحمد في

    داريك إن أبا عيسى لصهميم

    And clothe yourself in Abu Isa's qualities, to earn praise in

    both your abodes; indeed, Abu Isa is a dauntless man.

  7. مهذب الرأي كل المجد في يده

    مسدد القصد بالخيرات موسوم

    Refined in judgment, he holds all glory in his hand,

    rightly guided in purpose, marked by good deeds.

  8. يرى العواقب من مرآة فكرته

    وقد تلقاه للأشيا مفاهيم

    He sees outcomes through the mirror of his thought,

    and insights into things have come to him.

  9. له التجارب قد أبدت عجائبها

    وفي التجارب بعض الغيب مرسوم

    Experience has revealed its wonders to him,

    and in experience some of the unseen is inscribed.

  10. له الممالك قد ألقت أزمتها

    فآب والعزف في كفيه مذموم

    The kingdoms have cast their reins to him,

    so he returned, with music-making in his hands held blameworthy.

  11. فأوسع الخلق من علم ومن كرم

    وسؤدد وهو بالإنصاف مختوم

    Thus he enriched mankind with knowledge and generosity,

    and nobility; he bears the seal of fairness.
