كَأَنّيas though I سنَنتI instituted الحُبlove أَولfirst عاشِقlover
كَأَنّي سنَنت الحُب أَول عاشِق
مِنَamong الناسِpeople إِذwhen أحبَبتI loved مِنfrom بَينِهِمamong them وَحديon my own
مِنَ الناسِ إِذ أحبَبت مِن بَينِهِم وَحدي
It is as though I instituted love as the first lover
As if I were the first lover among mankind
among humankind, when I alone among them fell in love.
When I fell in love with one alone among them
