Is it remembrance of Layla that has brought back my lovesickness,
now that my head has turned gray and my reason has ripened?

By your life, I do not know—though my love for her
grows beyond the love I felt for her before—
أثابَhas it returned? اليَّto me الحِلمُsound judgment فَاِزدَدتso I increased in عَولَةlamentation

whether sound judgment has returned to me, and my lament has deepened,
turning me back to her—or whether folly never leaves me.
