خَليلي ان حلت كُلِّية بِالرِبا

فَذي أَمج فَالشِعب ذي الماءِ وَالحَمض

فَذي أَمج فَالشِعب ذي الماءِ وَالحَمض

My two friends, if Kulliyya settles on the uplands,

then at Dhu Amaj, then in the ravine with water and saltwort,

فَاِصبَحَ من حَوران رحلي بِمَنزِل

فَاِصبَحَ من حَوران رحلي بِمَنزِل

يُبَعِّدُه من دونِه نازِحُ الاِرضِ

يُبَعِّدُه من دونِه نازِحُ الاِرضِ

and my camp comes to rest at a stopping-place in Hawran,

made remote by the far reaches of intervening land,

وَايأَستُما ان يَجمَع الدَهر بَينَنا

وَايأَستُما ان يَجمَع الدَهر بَينَنا

فَخوضا لي السِمُّ المُضَرَّج بِالمَحض

فَخوضا لي السِمُّ المُضَرَّج بِالمَحض

and you two leave me no hope that time will reunite us,

then stir for me the poison mingled with pure milk.

فَفي ذاكَ من بَعضِ الاِمورِ سَلامَة

فَفي ذاكَ من بَعضِ الاِمورِ سَلامَة

وَلِلمَوتِ خير من حَياة عَلى غَمض

وَلِلمَوتِ خير من حَياة عَلى غَمض

For in that lies deliverance from some troubles,

and death is surely better than a life of humiliation.
