لِعَبدfor Abd العَزيزal-Aziz عَلىupon قَومِهِhis people
وَغَيرِهِمand others besides them نِعمfavors ظاهِرهmanifest
Abd al-Aziz has bestowed upon his people
and others favors plain to see.
فَبابُكfor your door الينsoftest; most welcoming ابوابِهِمtheir doors
وَدارُكَand your house ماinhabited (first word fragment) هولةَinhabited (second word fragment) عامرهflourishing
For your door is the most welcoming of their doors,
and your house is inhabited and flourishing.
وَكَلبُكَand your dog اِرأفkinder بِالزائِرينَto visitors
منthan الاِمthe mother بِاِبنَتِهاto her daughter الزائِرَهvisiting
And your dog is kinder to visitors
than a mother to her visiting daughter.
وَكفكand your palm حينَwhen تَرىyou see السائِلينَthose who ask
اندىmore generous; moister منthan اللَيلَةِthe night الماطِرهrainy
And your palm, when you see those who ask,
is more generous than a rainy night.
فَمِنكَso from you العَطاءُgiving وَمناand from us الثَناءpraise

So from you comes giving, and from us praise,
in every finely wrought poem that travels far.
