  1. لا نأمن الدهر إن الدهر خوان

    يعطى ولكن عطاء الدهر حرمان

    إن كنت في سنة فالدهر يقظان

    O you who tell me days are left

    If you are in one year, time is awake

  3. صبرا فدنياك لا تبقى على أحد

    فصفوها كدر والوصل هجران

    Have patience, for your world does not stay with anyone

    Its clarity is murk, and its union is separation

  4. فلا تغرنك الدنيا وزينتها

    في ضمن إحسانها للمرء أحزان

    So let not the world and its beauty delude you

    For within its kindness to man are sorrows

  5. دنياك كالظل لا تركن لزهرتها

    فريحها هو في التحقيق خسران

    Your world is like a shadow, do not rely on its blossoms

    For its wind is, in truth, loss

  6. ذا اللب فكر فما في الخلد من طمع

    جرى على ما ترى دهر وأزمان

    O wise mind, think - in eternity there is no ambition

    An era and times have passed as you see

  7. سيف المنايا على الأحياء مشتهر

    يسطو ومن فتكه تنهل أجفان

    The sword of death brandished over the living

    It assaults, and from its havoc eyelids pour

  8. أين النبيون والرسل الكرام ومن

    لهم إلى الله أشواق وأشجان

    Where are the prophets, the honored messengers, and those

    Who yearned and moaned for God

  9. هل أكرم الموت ذا تقوى لطاعته

    أم هل نجا ملك منه وسلطان

    Did death honor the God-fearing with obedience?

    Or did any king escape from it and power?

  10. يا دهر مهلا فكم جرعت من غصص

    سيان عندك من وفوا ومن خانوا

    O time, wait, for how many bitter drinks you have given

    The same to you are those faithful and those who betrayed

  11. تلك الليالي إذا ما أحسنت فلها

    على حقيقة طبع الحزن برهان

    Those nights, if they were good, they prove

    The nature of sorrow in truth

  12. لو دام عيش بدنيانا لما ذهبت

    منا مصابيح إتقان وفرسان

    If our worldly life persisted, the lamps of perfection and knights

    Would not have left us

  13. في كل يوم ترى أهل الفضائل في

    نقصان عد وللجهال رجحان

    Each day you see the people of virtue

    Decreasing in number and the ignorant prevailing

  14. قد مات من قام في دنياه مجتهدا

    بالدين حقا له وجد وإتقان

    He who strove in his worldly life with religion truly

    And strived has died

  15. الزاهد العامل المهدى سيرته

    عن النبيين لم يعلوه طغيان

    The ascetic worker, guided in his way

    Did not rise above the prophets in arrogance

  16. وذو التجهد إبراهيم من حمدت

    أخلاق وله صفو وإمعان

    And the tireless Abraham whom praise

    Adorned his character and sincerity

  17. حكى الجنيد مقامات بها فله

    تذكير ناس وتنبيه وإيمان

    Al-Junayd related stations in them for him

    Is remembrance, enlightening people, and faith

  18. رزية عظمت بالمسلمين وقد

    عمت ومنها كأن الدمع طوقان

    Funerals enlarged among the Muslims, and it is as though

    Tears are a necklace from them
