I have become sorrowful among humankind, beset by worry.

I have become among people one with sorrow

Distracted in mind between secrecy and openness.

My mind scattered between secrets and the open

وحالني تعب والقلب في كدر

وحالني تعب والقلب في كدر

وصحتي سقم والهم يتبعني

وصحتي سقم والهم يتبعني

And my state is weariness, and my heart is troubled.

And my state is fatigue and my heart troubled

And my health is sickness, and worry follows me.

And my health is ill and worries follow me

تلبانة بلدي والعلم أخدمه

تلبانة بلدي والعلم أخدمه

Talbanah is my town, and I serve knowledge.

Teaching is my profession and knowledge I serve

And in prosody, my words explain sorrow.

And in poetry my words explain sadness

ولي دروس بعلم الفقه ما درست

ولي دروس بعلم الفقه ما درست

كحال كل فقيه كان في زمني

كحال كل فقيه كان في زمني

And I have lessons in jurisprudence that I have not studied,

And I have lessons in jurisprudence I have not taught

Like every jurist who lived in my time.

Like the state of every jurist who was in my time
