A radiance shone forth in the sky of his perfection.

We wish him every good fortune, together with victory.

له حسن أخلاق وفضل وسؤدد

ظريف شريف بالفضائل والفخر

ظريف شريف بالفضائل والفخر

His are fine character, merit, and eminence.

Urbane and noble, endowed with virtues and glory.

له اللّه ما أنداه نفسا وفطرة

له اللّه ما أنداه نفسا وفطرة

تقى نقى في شمائله الطهر

تقى نقى في شمائله الطهر

God bless him—how generous he is in soul and nature!

Pious and pure, with purity in his character.

قوام لدين اللَه حافظ شرعه

قوام لدين اللَه حافظ شرعه

فما برحت علياه طيبة النشر

فما برحت علياه طيبة النشر

An upholder of God's religion, guardian of His law.

Thus his eminence has never ceased to be sweetly fragrant.

إذا جال في معنى شمائله فكرى

إذا جال في معنى شمائله فكرى

The radiance of my praise comes from his beautiful qualities,

when my thought roams through the meaning of his traits.

أديب أريب ألمعي مهذب

أديب أريب ألمعي مهذب

جلا كل ظلم بالعدالة واليسر

جلا كل ظلم بالعدالة واليسر

Cultured, sagacious, keen-witted, refined,

he dispelled all injustice through justice and leniency:

فانصاف مظلوم وإرغام ظالم

فانصاف مظلوم وإرغام ظالم

وإرشاد ذي جهل وجبر لذي كسر

وإرشاد ذي جهل وجبر لذي كسر

Thus, redress for the wronged and the humbling of the oppressor,

and guidance for the ignorant and mending for the broken.

يرد إياس الفهم ذو الرأى إنه

يرد إياس الفهم ذو الرأى إنه

ينال الذي قد نال من شرف الذكر

ينال الذي قد نال من شرف الذكر

This man of judgment rivals Iyas in understanding; indeed, he

attains the noble renown that Iyas attained.

محمدنا المأمول في كل حالة

محمدنا المأمول في كل حالة

أزال ظلام الظلم عن وجنة العصر

أزال ظلام الظلم عن وجنة العصر

Our Muhammad, the one we look to in every circumstance,

removed the darkness of injustice from the cheek of the age.

كبدر الضحى كالشمس كالفجر كالضحى

كبدر الضحى كالشمس كالفجر كالضحى

خصال حواها عن جهابذة غر

خصال حواها عن جهابذة غر

Like the full moon at forenoon, like the sun, like dawn, like morning light—

qualities he gathered from illustrious masters.

مع السلف الماضين يذكر فضله

مع السلف الماضين يذكر فضله

فمالي إن قصرت في القول من عذر

فمالي إن قصرت في القول من عذر

Alongside the departed forebears, his merit is recalled.

So I have no excuse if I fall short in speech.

تلذذه بالحلم والعلم والتقى

تلذذه بالحلم والعلم والتقى

أرانا خفايا الرأى من دون ماستر

أرانا خفايا الرأى من دون ماستر

His delight in forbearance, learning, and piety

has shown us the secrets of judgment without any veil.

هو الحكم المولى الذي إن ذكرته

هو الحكم المولى الذي إن ذكرته

فيا فرح العليا ويا طرب الدهر

فيا فرح العليا ويا طرب الدهر

He is the judge, the master; if I mention him,

then, oh, the joy of the heights, and oh, the rapture of time!

إذا ما تبدى في سناء جلاله

إذا ما تبدى في سناء جلاله

رأيت انبلاج العدل في ليلة البدر

رأيت انبلاج العدل في ليلة البدر

When he appears in the radiance of his majesty,

I see justice dawning on the night of the full moon.

له حكم داود وصورة يوسف

له حكم داود وصورة يوسف

إلى فهم عثمان وخلق أبي بكر

إلى فهم عثمان وخلق أبي بكر

He has David's judgment and Joseph's countenance,

along with Uthman's understanding and Abu Bakr's character.
