وإلاor else كماjust as هبblew النسيمthe breeze معwith الفجرthe dawn
Greetings, as a sweet-scented one greeted you,
Greetings as fragrant as the spreading breeze
Or else as the breeze blew at dawn;
Or as the morning dawn's gust stirs and weaves
وذكرand remembrance كماjust as غنتsang حمامةa dove أيكةa grove
وشوقand longing كماjust as حنyearned الحمامthe doves إلىtoward الوكرthe nest
And remembrance, like a dove's song in a grove,
And longing like the coo of a lovelorn dove
And longing, like doves yearning for their nest.
And yearning like a pigeon for its nest it grieves

A salutation from one who would ransom you from every calamity—
A tribute from one who'd give his all to save you
May you be shielded from death by my life, my kin, and my wealth.
From harm and grief for family, wealth and more

And love that grows ever fresher with the days,
And love that with the days grows yet more dear
Firmly rooted between the ribs and the breast.
Settling between the heart and breast's core

And why not, when you have already bestowed every marvel
Why not, when you have given every grace
Of bounty, inscribed upon the full moon's face?
Scribed by great virtue on the moon's face

You gave humankind the water of noble deeds and generosity to drink,
You've watered life with nobility's rain
And brought forth the ripest blossoms in the garden of eminence.
And in the garden of the lofty, fairest flowers grow

أحملهاI make it bear نجوىsecret words تلجلجfalter فيin صدريmy breast
I shall turn to the south wind, hoping I may
I'll cry unto the south wind, maybe it
Make it bear the secret words that falter in my breast.
Will carry tender whispers in its flow

So if the world has shown us a frown,
If life has sometimes darkened and turned grim
It is the world's habit to press its demands upon the noble.
Such is its way, for life will make its claim
فتعساso woe لأيامto days تحاربwage war on ذاone possessed of الحجاwisdom
وترفعand raise up مخفوضone low in المناقبmerits والقدرand worth
Woe, then, to days that wage war on the wise,
But woe to days that battle with renown
And raise up those of low merit and worth.
And lower high station and noble name
وهلand are ...? أنتyou إلاanything but دوحةa spreading tree المجدglory أثمرتbore fruit

And are you not glory's spreading tree, which bore fruit
For you are but a palm tree bearing fame
Through us, so we plucked the ripe fruit of pride?
Whose fruits we've plucked, so pride and joy we've gained
