أسيدٌ وقد جَدَّ الصُراخُ المُصدَّق
By my life, how fine is the clan I hear at dawn—
By my life, what a good clan is the crying Asīd
Usayd, when the true cry of alarm has grown urgent.
A truthful one when the war cry was believed

لهم رَيِّقٌ عند الطعانِ ومصدقُ
So I hear young men like the jinn of ʿAbqar;
So listen, O youths, like a fragrant garden
They are foremost in spear-fighting, with proven courage.
With clear wine at the thrust and charge and believed

They saw a raiding band gathering up the grazing herds, as though it were
They saw a raid containing the dark horses as though they were
Locusts in the forenoon, roaming and feeding on leaves.
Locusts cleared away, having set out early and scattered

They carried them along both sides of Afaq and its valley floor;
They took them in their sides, awoke and bellies
So they did not return until they had enslaved and set free.
So they did not return until they died and were set free
