لئنif indeed زادَنيincreased in me قُربُnearness المزارِthe place of visitation تشُّوقاًlonging
لئن زادَني قُربُ المزارِ تشُّوقاً
لِلُقياكto meet you آذىharmed فِعلَهُits effect عَدَمُlack of الحسِّsensation
لِلُقياك آذى فِعلَهُ عَدَمُ الحسِّ
If indeed the nearness of the place of visitation has heightened my longing
to meet you—lack of sensation has impaired its effect—
فماthen … not أناI إِلاّexcept مثلُlike ساهرِone who keeps vigil ليلةٍa night
فما أنا إِلاّ مثلُ ساهرِ ليلةٍ
بداappeared الفجرُthe dawn فازدادand so he increased اشتياقاًin longing إِلىfor الشّمسthe sun
بدا الفجرُ فازداد اشتياقاً إِلى الشّمس
then I am but like one who kept vigil through a night:
Dawn appeared, and he longed still more for the sun.
