  1. لا يَستَطيعونَ أَن تُحِبَّهُم

    إلاَّ بِشَرط

    They cannot be loved by you

    except on condition

  2. أَن يَستَسلِموا لَكَ

    دونَ شَرط .

    that they surrender to you

    without condition.

  3. /

    يَرجونَكَ أَلاَّ تَبكي لأَجلِهِم

    /

    They beg you not to weep for them

  4. وهُم أَمامَكَ يَنهَمِرونَ

    في دُموعِهِم .

    while they pour down before you

    in their tears.

  5. /

    ذَوو العُيونِ المُوحِلَة .

    /

    Those with muddy eyes.

  6. /

    يتَفاخَرونَ بِأَنَّهُم

    /

    They boast that they are

  7. الأَكثَرُ اِستِهلاكاً

    للمَحارمِ الوَرَقيَّة .

    the greatest consumers

    of paper tissues.

  8. /

    اِبحَث عَنهُم

    /

    Look for them

  9. لَن تَجِد آثارَهُم

    سِوى في زَهرَةٍ

    you will not find their traces

    except in a flower

  10. أَو

    زَهرَةٍ .

    or

    a flower.

  11. /

    هُم في قُلوبِهِم

    /

    They are in their hearts,

  12. وليسَ لأَوراقِهِم حَوافٌ

    تُطَوِّقُهُم

    and their leaves have no edges

    that encircle them

  13. كحَلقةٍ مِن لَهَب

    يَصيحونَ بكَ :

    like a ring of flame.

    They shout at you:

  14. ( اِقفِز يا نِمر )

    فتَحارُ كَيفَ تُراقِصُهُم

    (Jump, tiger)

    so you are at a loss how to dance with them,

  15. ثُمَّ ترتَمي عَليهِم

    دُونَ أَن تَعمَلَ عَمَلَكَ

    then you fling yourself upon them

    without doing your work

  16. في تَمزيقِهِم .

    /

    of tearing them apart.

    /

  17. تَستَطيعُ بِكُلِّ سُهولَةٍ

    أَن تَأخذَ وَجهَ الواحِدِ مِنهُم

    You can quite easily

    take the face of one of them

  18. كامِلاً

    بقُبلَة .

    whole

    with a kiss.

  19. /

    إذا حَلَلتَ ضَيفاً يَسأَلونَكَ

    /

    When you arrive as a guest, they ask you:

  20. أَتُحِبُّ تَناوُلَ البَشر

    كمَسحوقٍ

    Do you like consuming humans

    as powder

  21. أَم كَعَصير .

    /

    or as juice?

    /

  22. بُطونُهم أَسرَّةٌ

    مُجاوِرَة

    Their bellies are beds

    side by side;

  23. أَثداؤهُم

    وسائدُ إضافيَّة .

    their breasts

    extra pillows.

    حَذارِ

    Beware,

  25. إذا اعترَضوا طَريقَكَ

    أَن تنْزَلِقَ بِهِم

    if they block your path,

    lest you slip on them.

  26. ظِلالُهُم

    تَذوبُ

    Their shadows

    melt

  27. وَتَسيلُ

    عَلى البَلاط .

    and flow

    across the tiles.

  28. /

    يُرافِقُ إصغاءَهُم

    /

    Their listening is accompanied by

  29. تَغريدُ

    حَشَرات .

    the chirping

    of insects.

  30. /

    اللاَّصِقونَ بِكَ

    /

    Those who cling to you

  31. كالأَشياءِ الخَفيفةِ الدَّبِقة

    الَّتي تَعلَقُ بِهذهِ اليَد

    like light, sticky things

    that stick to this hand

  32. إلى تِلك

    كُلَّما نَفَضتَها وحاوَلتَ

    then to that one,

    whenever you shake them off and try

  33. التّخَلَّصَ مِنها

    الباقونَ حَيثُ

    to get rid of them,

    those who remain where

  34. أَشَحتَ بوَجهِكَ عَنهُم

    لا يُزحزِحُهُم طارئٌ

    you turned your face away from them—

    no unexpected event dislodges them

  35. حَتَّى آخِرِ السَّهرة

    ليُشارِكوكَ

    until the end of the evening,

    to share with you

  36. بِما بَخَلتَ عَن تَقديمِهِ

    للجَميع

    what you were too stingy to offer

    to everyone

  37. وأَبقيتَهُ لَكَ

    وَحدَكَ

    and kept for yourself

    alone

  38. مِن

    حَلوى

    of

    the sweets

  39. النَّدم ..

    of regret...
