صَباحاً
العُميانُ يَستَيقِظون
In the morning,
the blind wake up
في لَيلِهِم .

in their night.
/
يَحيونَ أعمارَهُم دونَ أن
يَعرِفوا أَنفسَهم
They live out their lives without
recognizing themselves
إذا لَمحوا وُجوهَهُم
في المِرآة .
if they glimpse their faces
in the mirror.

مَراياهُم
/
Their mirrors
جُدرانٌ مُظلِمَة .
/
are dark walls.
/
يَركُضونَ في المَمَرَّات
بِكُلِّ اِتِّجاه
They run through the corridors
in every direction
ويَهبِطونَ السَّلالِمَ
ثَلاثاً ثَلاثاً
and descend the stairs
three at a time,
ثُمَ يَقفُزونَ دَرَجاتِ العَتَبَةِ الأَخيَرة
دَفعَةً واحِدَة .
then leap over the steps of the last threshold
in one go.

يتَدافَعونَ
/
They jostle one another
لِيَحتَلَّ أَسرَعُهُم
مَقاعِدَ الصَّفَ الأَول
so that the fastest among them may occupy
the seats in the front row
في غُرفَةِ التِّلفاز
ثُمَّ يَأتي وَيَنزَعُهم عَنها
in the television room,
then comes and pulls them from those seats
أَقواهُمُ .

the strongest among them.

يُرَتِّلونَ صَفَحاتٍ
لَم يُكتَب عَليها شَيء
They chant pages
on which nothing has been written.
يُغَنونَ ويَعزِفونَ
وَهم يُحَدِّقونَ
They sing and play music
while they stare
إلى سَّماء
بِلا وَجه .
at a sky
without a face.

لا يُريدونَ أَن يُبعِدوا

They do not want to remove
وَجهَ اللَّهِ
عَن أَنظارِهِم .
God's face
from their sight.
/
الَّذي أَغَمَضَ عُيونَهُم
/
who closed their eyes
وكَلَّفَهُم بِشَرحِ
خَرائطَ
and tasked them with explaining
maps
لَم يَروها مِن قَبل ..
they had never seen before..
