نحنwe فيin الرحمةcompassion والودand affection جسدa body
نحن في الرحمة والود جسد
يُسهرkeeps awake الأعضاءَthe limbs عضوٌa limb ماnot رقدslept
يُسهر الأعضاءَ عضوٌ ما رقد
In compassion and affection, we are one body.
We are a body of mercy and affection
A sleepless limb keeps the other limbs awake.
Kept awake by members if one nods off
أمتيmy nation فيin كلevery قِطرٍland تشتكيlaments
أمتي في كل قِطرٍ تشتكي
أينwhere أعضاؤكyour limbs ياO هذاthis الجسدbody؟!
أين أعضاؤك يا هذا الجسد؟!
My nation laments in every land.
My nation in every region complains
Where are your limbs, O body?!
Where are your members, O body?!
شظفhardship العيشlife عليهمupon them كلهall of it
شظف العيش عليهم كله
ولناand for us فيin دورناour homes كلall الرغدease and plenty
ولنا في دورنا كل الرغد
All life's hardship falls upon them,
Living is unbearable for them
And in our homes, all ease and plenty are ours.
While we in our abodes have all comfort
أيهاO you الآمنُthe secure one فيin أوطانهhis homelands
أيها الآمنُ في أوطانه
إنّindeed إخوانكyour brothers منfrom غيرanother بلدland
إنّ إخوانك من غير بلد
O you, secure in your homelands,
O you who feels safe in your homelands
Indeed, your brothers come from other lands.
Your brothers have no native lands
أيهاO you المسرورthe joyful one فيamong خلانهhis close friends
أيها المسرور في خلانه
بعضناsome of us ماnot نامslept منfrom طولduration الكمدgrief
بعضنا ما نام من طول الكمد
O you, happy among your close friends,
O you happy in your chambers
Some of us have not slept, so prolonged is their grief.
Some of us never sleep from constant distress
أيهاO you الإنسانhuman being إنسانٌa human being هناhere
أيها الإنسان إنسانٌ هنا
أسمَعَmade hear الكلeveryone ولمand did not ينطقspeak أحدanyone
أسمَعَ الكل ولم ينطق أحد
O human being, a human being here
O man, a man is here
Has made himself heard by all, yet no one has spoken.
Let all listen, none has spoken
عجباًhow strange! منat غابةa forest مملوءةfilled
عجباً من غابة مملوءة
بالنعاماتwith ostriches وماand not فيهاin it أسدa lion
بالنعامات وما فيها أسد
How strange—a forest filled
Wondrous is a forest full
With ostriches, and not a lion in it!
Of ostriches, yet no lion it holds
آهah ياO ربيmy Lord إليكto You المشتكىthe complaint
آه يا ربي إليك المشتكى
عَـظُمَhas grown grave الخطبthe calamity وأنتand You المستندthe support
عَـظُمَ الخطب وأنت المستند
Ah, my Lord, to You I bring my complaint.
Oh my Lord, to You I complain
The calamity has grown grave, and You are our support.
Grave is the issue, and You my pillar
مكةٌMecca ترنوgazes إلىtoward الأقصىAl-Aqsa وفيand in
مكةٌ ترنو إلى الأقصى وفي
مقلةeye الأقصىAl-Aqsa منfrom الحزنgrief رمدeye inflammation
مقلة الأقصى من الحزن رمد
Mecca gazes toward Al-Aqsa, and in
Mecca yearns for Al-Aqsa
Al-Aqsa's eye is soreness born of grief.
Al-Aqsa's niche weeps from sorrow
أينwhere منone who يمكثendures فيناamong us نفعهhis benefit
أين من يمكث فينا نفعه
زبدٌfroth قوميmy people وماand not يجديavails الزبدthe froth
زبدٌ قومي وما يجدي الزبد
Where is one whose good endures among us?
Where is one whose presence benefits us?
My people are froth, and froth is of no use.
My people's foam, though foam is useless
لمno longer نعدwe are صفاًa rank علىagainst أعدائناour enemies
لم نعد صفاً على أعدائنا
كلevery حزبfaction صفَّlined up صفاًa rank وانفردand stood apart
كل حزب صفَّ صفاً وانفرد
We are no longer one rank against our enemies.
No longer lines against our foes
Every faction formed a rank and stood apart.
Each party lined its lines and split
قدindeed قُـتلناwe were slain بسكاكينwith knives الهوىdesire
قد قُـتلنا بسكاكين الهوى
واحتسبناand we sought God's reward ماno لقتلاناfor our slain قـوَدretaliation in kind
واحتسبنا ما لقتلانا قـوَد
We have been slain by the knives of desire,
We were killed by daggers of passion
And we sought God's reward; there is no retribution for our slain.
And we considered our killing as firewood
ونفاقand hypocrisy وشقاقand discord وهوىand desire
ونفاق وشقاق وهوى
لمdid not يدعْleave فيin جَـلِدِstout of القلبheart جَـلَدfortitude
لم يدعْ في جَـلِدِ القلب جَـلَد
And hypocrisy, discord, and desire
Hypocrisy, dissent, and desire
Have left no fortitude in the stouthearted.
Left no skin on the heart untouched
بأسناour might أصبحhas become فيماin what is بينناbetween us
بأسنا أصبح فيما بيننا
كلناall of us إنif أبصرhe sees المالwealth أسدa lion
كلنا إن أبصر المال أسد
Our might is now turned against one another.
Our affliction has become amongst ourselves
Each of us is a lion when he sees wealth.
All of us, when seeing money, lions
ليتنيif only I إذas أحتسيI sip منfrom زمزمٍZamzam
ليتني إذ أحتسي من زمزمٍ
أغسلI wash العالمthe world منof خُبْثِfoulness الحسدenvy
أغسل العالم من خُبْثِ الحسد
Would that, as I sip from Zamzam,
If only, when sipping from Zamzam
I could wash the world free of envy's foulness.
I cleanse the world of envy's vileness
ربِّmy Lord أعداؤكYour enemies عاثواthey wreaked havoc فانتصرso take vengeance
ربِّ أعداؤك عاثوا فانتصر
ربِّmy Lord منwho غيركother than You للعبدfor the servant سندa support
ربِّ من غيرك للعبد سند
My Lord, Your enemies have wreaked havoc—so take vengeance!
Lord, Your enemies spread corruption, so give victory
My Lord, who but You is the servant's support?
Lord, without You no pillar for a servant
رفعواthey raised up آلهةًgods مغلوبةًvanquished
رفعوا آلهةً مغلوبةً
وانتصرناand we triumphed "قلsay هوHe اللهAllah أحدOne??
وانتصرنا "قل هو الله أحد??
They raised up vanquished gods,
They raised defeated gods
And we triumphed: 'Say: He is Allah, One.'
And we gained victory "Say, He is One God"
