I loved your eyes as a bottomless sea.

My life is a restless sail upon its shores.

I loved your eyes as riotous tempests,

and as a stormy season, impetuous by nature.

I loved them as a distant twilight; tugging at me

within it are childhood, dreams, and radiance.

I loved your eyes while the waves were bleeding.

I loved them while the blood of roses burned.

I loved them, the expanse a promise and visions

cascading for a while; then the horizon awakens beneath them.

Your eyes are a harbor for scattered dreams

    that yearn toward it whenever dusk overtakes them;

and a paradise of shade, where refuge is sought

by migrants scorched in the land of exile.

They surge with the unseen and secrets, lost in thought,

as though setting out toward an unknown tomorrow.

What lies in your eyes: longing, or a struggle

fierce—or a graceful call within them?

How many cities the melody drowns in their depths!

And between their lashes, how often twilight is born!

Dawn has no color unless they both shine with it,

as magic with which the squares and streets resound.

Your eyes say: spring's longings are dolls

deformed, and love's talk is paper.
