تألق النور نور الحق والرشد
From the Peninsula, from my land and from my homeland,
From my island, from my land
The light shone—the light of truth and right guidance.
The light of truth and guidance shone bright
ومنand from رباهاits hills رباهاits hills الطاهراتthe pure ones ثريsoil
ومن رباها رباها الطاهرات ثري
أبيضwhite تنفسbreathed الصبحthe dawn منfrom بدرBadr ومنand from أحدUhud
أبيض تنفس الصبح من بدر ومن أحد
And from its hills—its pure hills, their soil
Raised by the Most Pure it grew
White—the dawn breathed forth from Badr and from Uhud.

نورa light تألقshone منfrom نورlight فرقand grew tender بهthrough it قلبthe heart of
نور تألق من نور فرق به قلب
الحياةlife ونضand oozed الصخرthe rock بالبردwith coolness
الحياة ونض الصخر بالبرد
A light shone from light, softening the heart
A light shone from the light which stirred hearts
Of life; and rock oozed with coolness.
And brought life, softening rocks with its gentle light
وفاضand overflowed عبرacross شعوبthe peoples of الأرضthe earth مندفقاstreaming forth
وفاض عبر شعوب الأرض مندفقا
يحييrevives القلوبthe hearts ويشفيand heals ثغرthe mouth of كلevery صدىthirsty person
يحيي القلوب ويشفي ثغر كل صدى
It overflowed across the peoples of the earth, streaming forth,
It flowed overflowing through earth's peoples
Reviving hearts and healing every thirsty mouth.
Reviving hearts and healing every hurt
جرىflowed فأخصبتand so grew fertile الدنياthe world ندىdew وهدىand guidance
جرى فأخصبت الدنيا ندى وهدى
تمازجاthe two mingled كامتزاجlike the mingling of الروحthe soul بالجسدwith the body
تمازجا كامتزاج الروح بالجسد
It flowed, and the world grew fertile with dew and guidance;
It ran and so the world flourished with dew and guidance
The two mingled as the soul mingles with the body.
Blending together like spirit blended with body
وأشرفتand rose in glory "بابنthrough the son of عبدAbd (servant) اللهAllah (God)" واتلقتand shone
وأشرفت "بابن عبد الله" واتلقت
"رسالةthe message of اللهGod" زاهradiant نورهاits light الصمديof the Self-Sufficient One
"رسالة الله" زاه نورها الصمدي
And it rose in glory through the son of Abd Allah, and there shone
And was illuminated by Son of Abdullah, receiving
God's message, its light from the Self-Sufficient One radiant.
God's Message, its eternal light shone
"محمدMuhammad" خيرthe best of خلقthe creation of اللهGod قاطبةwithout exception
"محمد" خير خلق الله قاطبة
خَلْقًاin physical form وخُلقًاand in character علىin السراءprosperity والنكدand adversity
خَلْقًا وخُلقًا على السراء والنكد
Muhammad, the best of all God's creation,
"Muhammad" best of all God's creation
In form and character, in prosperity and adversity,
In character and in manners in ease and in plight
نديمboon companion of "جبريلGabriel" يسقيهhe gives him drink فماmouth لفمto a mouth
نديم "جبريل" يسقيه فما لفم
"وجباpossibly revelation; unclear as written" يرتلهhe chants it شادa singer إلىto غردa melodious singer
"وجبا" يرتله شاد إلى غرد
Gabriel's boon companion, given drink by him, mouth to mouth—
With "Gabriel" his companion serving him
Revelation [probable intended reading], chanted by a singer to a songster,
Chanting verses that lift the soul in flight
أحلىsweeter منthan الشهدhoney آياتverses مفصلةset forth in detail
أحلى من الشهد آيات مفصلة
تهديguide إلىto البرrighteousness فيin قولspeech ومعتقدand belief
تهدي إلى البر في قول ومعتقد
Sweeter than honey—verses set forth in detail,
Sweeter than honey, verses expounded
Guiding to righteousness in speech and belief.
To guide to righteousness in word and belief
تنزلتdescended بالهدىwith guidance والنورand light فيin لغةa language
تنزلت بالهدى والنور في لغة
تلألأتsparkled بمعانwith meanings فذةunique جددnew
تلألأت بمعان فذة جدد
They descended with guidance and light in a language
Revealed with guidance and light in a tongue
That sparkled with unique, fresh meanings.
That gleamed with eloquent, splendid speech
تبلىwear away الدهورthe ages ولاand does not تبلىfade نضارتهاits freshness
تبلى الدهور ولا تبلى نضارتها
صفاءpurity لفظwording ومعنىand meaning خالدenduring أبديeternal
صفاء لفظ ومعنى خالد أبدي
The ages wear away, but its freshness never fades:
Eras pass but their beauty lasts ever fresh
Purity of wording, and meaning enduring and eternal.
Clear wording and meaning eternally bright
