Describe her beauty to me, and extol her coquetry,

For my description of her alone does her beauty an injustice.

Every thought born of love for her returns to me,

Picturing her likeness for me in everything.

    اضاء الهوى اطيافها وظلالها

    I painted her portrait on the canvas of my heart;

Love lit up its hues and shadows.

And oh, how sweet the beauty mark adorning her cheek!

Indeed, my love grew boundless when I kissed her beauty mark.

I was consumed with love for her and returned her passion,

Pure as a spring's flow, offering its crystal-clear water.

I received her from the world of art as a masterpiece,

As the right eye meets the left.

And I brought her into the sanctuary of my poetry,

As though she were an angel to whom heaven had lent its majesty.

Ask her how she governed my feelings,

So I found myself before her with both hands bound.

    احب التي القت عليه حبالها

    And the heart is but a bird in her right hand;

It loved the one who cast her snares over it.

Beloved of my heart, my life's greatest joy was a night

In which I saw you as its star and crescent moon.

And many a tale I deftly wove in all its artful detail,

So you believed even its falsehood and fantasy.

And many a smile inspired a poem in me,

One Qays would have wished to recite about his Layla.
