إليكto you لقدindeed جربتI have experienced كلَّevery بليةٍaffliction
إليك لقد جربت كلَّ بليةٍ
فلمyet did not أرَI see فيamong البلوىafflictions أشدَّharsher منthan الفقرِpoverty
فلم أرَ في البلوى أشدَّ من الفقرِ
To you I say: I have indeed experienced every affliction;
To you, I have tasted all types of affliction,
yet among afflictions I have seen none harsher than poverty.
Yet I saw no affliction more severe than poverty.
أخُوcompanion of الفقرِpoverty فيin النادِيthe gathering ذليلabased مُكسَّبmade to earn a living
أخُو الفقرِ في النادِي ذليل مُكسَّب
وذُوand the possessor of المالwealth فيat صدرِthe head of المجالسassemblies كالصقرlike a falcon
وذُو المال في صدرِ المجالس كالصقر
Poverty’s companion is abased in the gathering, made to earn his living;
The brother of poverty is humiliated even among friends,
and the man of wealth is like a falcon at the head of assemblies.
While the wealthy sits proudly in the highest seats.
