    Our sheikhs, your loss is grievous,

    And your patience amid great calamity is immense.

    For you are firmly rooted mountains,

    When minds grow unsteady amid battle.

    أجلْ أنَّي يحرككم نسيمُ

    Steadfast, no winds can move you;

    Indeed, how could a breeze move you?

    يزيِّنها بِكُم خُلُقٌ كَرِيمُ

    You have resolve and mighty hearts;

    A noble character in you adorns them.

    So I do not tell you, “Be patient,” but

    I tell you: for it you have a great reward.

    يدلُّ عليكمُ الكرمُ القديمُ

    And you lead the way in every virtue;

    Your longstanding generosity bears witness to you.

    And you are lords of all kings,

    And your child is as forbearing as your elder.

    فكلُّ العالمين بكم سليمُ

    Everything is safe if you are safe;

    So all the world is safe through you.

    And on the summits of glory you are suns,

    Life for all creation: live, and endure.

    فتىً سلطاننا أنتَ الحكيمُ

    And live for ages, O praiseworthy one of lofty glory;

    Young man, our sultan, you are the wise one.

    For in this life, yours are honor and might,

    And in the next, yours is everlasting triumph.

    So do not grieve over what has passed, and invoke

    God, for He is merciful to you.

    If you expect no return for the departed,

    Then why the grief over him, and the cares?

    So do not hope for permanence from this world,

    For nothing in this world endures.

    Consolation to you, O son of Sultan ibn Saif,

    For him who has perished, while you remain among us.

    Everyone who walks upon it will pass away,

    And no creature remains in it forever.

    For everyone must perish one day,

    And the mighty Lord's Face remains.

    And be like your brother Saif, possessed of lofty honors:

    A lion whom wounds cannot terrify.

    Nor does prosperity make him arrogant enough to transgress,

    Nor do any cares hover around him.

    Nor does the burial of [a word unclear as written] appall him,

    Nor of the nearer one, even if the forbearing one has died.

    He is the chieftain, exceedingly fierce in his onslaught,

    When chieftains bow before his might.

    فريقا بالميالِ فيستقيمُوا

    For all people are your dependents;

    [Unclear wording: a group, with the one who leans], so that they may become upright.

    فجودُ كمُ به تَحيَي الرسومُ

    And give generously to the dependents from what you possess;

    For through your generosity the ruins come to life.

    لعمري إن مربعها وخيمُ

    For the world is not reckoned an abode of eternity;

    By my life, its dwelling is unwholesome.

    It is impossible for life in it to be sweet,

    And its habit is to sleep while letting no one sleep.

    It is this world: its interior is ugly,

    And its exterior is fair to its beholder.

    It is bitter salt water that turns to poison

    For the drinker of its water, while people are crazed with thirst.

    So if you are the wanderer, take heed,

    And take from it as a weaned child takes.

    Take solace, seek divine reward, and persevere patiently,

    For patience stands firm against great calamity.

    And give our imam a special greeting of peace from us,

    The imam of the Muslims—he is the learned one.
