    وعاصِ الهوى يا أيُّهذا المرابِثُ

    Three things—in them lies a man's ruin, so shun them;

and resist desire, O you who linger.

They are blameworthy anger, and haste that

is condemned among the virtuous; and obscenity is the third.

Through three things a man sets his faith aright

and is praised for good deeds among humankind:

a young man's discharge of every duty owed his Lord,

and truthfulness he keeps as his companion, and sincerity of intention.

Three things bring sickness to body and heart,

and whoever practices them lives in evil throughout his life:

namely, excessive intercourse with beautiful women, and overeating,

and a man's excessive sleeping in his early mornings.
