سأصْبرُI shall endure صبراًwith patience لاnot يشاكلهmatches it صبرُpatience
وحتىand until يقولَsay الناسُthe people قلبيmy heart لهfor it قبرُa grave
I shall endure with a patience no patience can match,
Until people say my heart is its grave.
سأصبرُI shall endure صبراًwith patience صبرthe patience أيوبَof Job دونَهbeneath it
ولاand not أظهرُI show الشكوىcomplaint ولوand even if مَسَّنيtouches me الضرُّaffliction
I shall endure with a patience surpassing Job's,
And show no complaint, even if affliction touches me.
وإنand if قيلَit is said إنthat الصبرَpatience يضنىwears one down فإننىthen indeed I
أطيقُI can bear الضنىexhaustion فيin الصبرpatience ماas long as دامremains بيin me عُمْرُlife
And if it is said that patience wears one down, then I
Can bear the weariness of patience as long as life remains in me.
وإنand if كنتُI was فيat بعضsome الأحايينtimes أشتكىI complain
فلاso no بدescape للمصدورِfor one with an ailing chest منfrom نفثةٍa sigh تعْرُوthat comes upon him
And if at times I have complained,
One with an ailing breast cannot escape a sigh that overtakes him.
فماfor no اشتدgrew difficult أمرٌa matter أوor تعذرَproved unattainable نازحٌsomething far off
علىfor طالبٍa seeker إلاexcept that وفرَّجهُand eased it الصبرُpatience
For no task ever grew hard, nor any far-off goal proved unattainable
To a seeker, without patience easing it.
فإنso if لمnot أجدْI find فيin الصبرِpatience نفعاًbenefit لحاضرfor the present
عسَىperhaps فيin ذُرَىthe heights العقبىof the hereafter لىَfor me الفوزُtriumph والذُّخْرُand treasure
So if I find no benefit in patience for the present,
Perhaps, in the heights of the hereafter, triumph and treasure will be mine.
فلاso do not تعجباmarvel, you two مِنّيat me فذلكfor that ديدنىmy habitual way
وكلٌّand everyone لهfor him طبْعٌa nature يصرِّفُهdirects it أمْرُa circumstance
So do not marvel at me, you two, for that is my way,
And each has a nature that circumstance directs.
