Darwish, O you of misshapen progeny,
O Darwish, one with a repugnant mandate,
What a vile father you have, O father of the rabble!
May ill favor your father, O instigator of turmoil!

Rather, O fool of the desert!

Rather, O heaviest of burdens!

ياO قُرْحَةَan ulcer فيin القلبِthe heart والأحشاءِand the entrails
O you, filthiest in character among mankind,
O most filthy in morals among people,
O ulcer in the heart and entrails!
O sore in the heart and intestines!
ياO أكذبَgreatest liar among الضُّلاَّلِthe misguided فيin أخبارهمtheir reports

O greatest liar among the misguided in their reports,
O greatest of the misguided in their tales,
And basest of those who walk upon the dusty earth!
O lowest of those who walk on dust!

قاضيjudge of الورىmankind بالقَوْلَةwith the utterance الشنعاءِheinous
And you slandered Abd Allah, Muhammad's offspring,
And you cast Abdallah, the lineage of Muhammad,
The judge of mankind, with the heinous utterance.
The judge of mankind, with a vile slander!

Mahmud's son is above that—the saint, the favored one,
Far it is for the son of Mahmud the Guardian, the Satisfied,
A man of fidelity and a mine of blessings.
The people of loyalty and spring of favors!
تعساًruin وقُبحاًand disgrace ياO سُلالةoffspring of مُشملٍMushmil
وشَرُفْتَand you gained honor إذwhen أعملتُI directed فيكat you ندائيmy call
Ruin and disgrace upon you, O offspring of Mushmil!
Wretched and ugly are you, O descendants of Mushamil,
And you gained honor when I directed my call at you.
You have been ennobled when I exerted my voice against you,
ماnot كانwas حقّكyour worth يستحقُّdeserves هِجائيmy invective

واحَرَّنيalas, how I burn ضيَّعْتُI wasted فيكَon you هِجائيmy invective
Your worth did not merit my invective;
Your due was not deserving of my satire,
Alas, how I burn! I wasted my invective on you!
And it pained me that I wasted my satire on you,
ومنand among العجائبthe marvels أنthat شخصكyour person ميِّتٌdead
وتُعدُّand you are counted فيin الدنياthe world منamong الأحياءِthe living
And it is a marvel that your person is dead,
And of the wonders is that your person is dead,
Yet you are counted among the living in this world.
Yet you are counted among the living in the world!

رائيكَseeing you لاnot شيئاًa thing منamong الأشياءِthings
The language of blame has grown too narrow for you, for I
The description of blame in you has narrowed, because I see
see you as nothing among things.
Nothing in you among things.
مُزِّقْتَmay you be torn كلَّevery مُمَزَّقٍshred دونapart from الورىmankind

May you be torn to utter shreds, apart from mankind,
You have been torn apart beyond all torn ones in the world,
O guest in a time of drought, on a day of high prices!
O guest of the abode in days of high prices!
أتعيبُdo you fault مَنone who لمnot تَسْوَyou were worth شِسْعَa strap of نِعالهhis sandals

Do you fault one when you are not worth his sandal-strap,
Do you fault one whose shoe-strap you cannot equal,
And revile him, O vilest of fools?
And you insult him, O most wicked of fools!
شُلّتْmay be palsied يداكَyour two hands وفضَّand may be shattered فُوكyour mouth وفرقتand may be scattered

May your hands be palsied, your mouth shattered, and scattered be
Your hands are paralyzed and your mouth gaped,
Your hands, O brother of affliction and misery!
And your hands separated, O brother of ordeal and misery!

And I see you, O you whose eyes are blind to guidance,
And I see you, O blind to guidance,
Veering aside in blind darkness.
Deviating in a dark mud!
وأراكَand I see you عِبْتَyou faulted النورthe light فيon آفاقناour horizons
وركضتand you spurred خيلsteeds of الجهلignorance فيin الظَّلماءِthe darkness
And I see you have faulted the light on our horizons,
And I see you have obscured the light in our horizons,
And spurred ignorance's steeds in the darkness.
And the horses of ignorance raced in the darkness!
لوif كانhad يعلَمُknown آدمٌAdam منfrom صُلبِهhis loins

Had Adam known that from his loins
If Adam had known that from his loins would come
You would come, he would have fled and shunned Eve.
One who rebels and deviates from Eve,

If the dusty earth received justice against you, you would sink into
If the dust were to be fair to you, you would have dissolved
The bottommost depths, in a misshapen form.
At the bottom of the abyss in an ugly form!

Take it, far-reaching, its waves crashing together
Take it bound, its waves clashing against you
With blame, like the crashing of the sea.
With blame, like the clashing of insects!

It came to you, hastening with poisons, swift
It comes to you rushing with poisons, swift
In its course, like the speckled serpent.
In its rushing like the dappled viper!

It clothes you on the Day of Gathering in a garment of humiliation,
It will clothe you on the Day of Resurrection in a robe of disgrace
Till you come with a black drawstring.
Until you come stumbling in a black stigma!

If you do not repent, then upon you be our God's curse,
Unless you repent, upon you is the lasting curse of our God,
Abiding forever, O father of indecency!
O everlasting shameful one!
