    head, and will not clothe herself in modesty's garment;

    دائماً لا تزالُ باستِقْصاءِ

    nor her who eats throughout the day,

    constantly, never stopping, to excess;

    لا زالَ في عَمىً وعَماءِ

    Likewise, some, when they take two wives,

    remain in blindness and confusion;

    أربعٌ كلهنَّ في الاستواءِ

    while some, without any trouble,

    have four, all treated equally.

    I counsel men to show gentleness and

    tenderness, generosity and bounty toward women,

    cheerful smiles, care and

    earnest kindness, in hardship and ease,

    and ample gifts without reminders of favor,

    so hearts may soften through giving.

    I counsel women to listen and

    obey continually, morning and evening.

    wash yourself, then bathe in water,

    from mouth or nose, caused by ailments,

    chew ginger after cardamom

    and its brother, cloves, which you buy.

    ليس هذى الأوصافُ للفقراءِ

    This is if you are a wealthy man;

    these prescriptions are not for the poor.

    لا تُقابِلْ أخى بالاستهزاءِ

    This is my counsel, so hear it;

    do not receive it, my brother, with mockery.

    If you do not heed it and what I have said,

    you are the drowning man in the deep sea.

    his brother, offer him condolences for his ruin.

    Then may God bless, as long as the

    wind blows, the Chosen One, noble and innocent.
