Should I fear time's vicissitudes and reversals,

When my champion is Sayf, son of Sultan?

A king before whom armies fall prostrate,

And the kings of earth's peoples fall upon their chins.

He has filled the lands' horizons with his justice,

Eastward and westward—he has no equal.

Can thirst afflict me while the stream of his bounty

Flows unceasingly like a steady downpour?

Even if what he sought lay in the lions' jaws,

His hands would secure it without delay.

Far be it from him to let time touch me

With sorrow and surrender me to fate's calamities.

And he is the surging ocean, discerning and gallant,

The lofty mountain, far-removed yet near at hand,

The giver, the hero, the brave and noble one,

The beacon, the well-pleasing one, refuge of the captive in bondage.

I have not forgotten his father's bounty since I was a youth:

He would bestow upon me gifts of kindness.
