حبيبٌa beloved لوif أنّthat الأرضَthe earth تخبرُtells بالذىof what
بهاwithin it منهbecause of him شوقاًlonging للورىto humankind حسدواthey would envy الأرضَاthe earth
My beloved—if the earth could tell of what lies
A beloved—if the earth revealed to humankind what
within her: longing for him—humankind would envy the earth.
longing it bears for him, they would envy the earth.
ولوand if أنّthat جناتِthe gardens النبيينof the prophets خُيِّرتْwere given a choice
بهwith him وبهمand with them قسْماas a share لقالتْthen they would say بِهwith him أَرْضَىI am content
And if the Gardens of Bliss were offered a choice
And if the gardens of the prophets were given a choice
between him and humankind—I swear—they would say, “Be content with him.”
between him and them as their share, they would say, 'With him I am content.'
ومنand one who تَاهَتvaunted itself الدنياthe world علىover أهلهاits inhabitants بهthrough him
كعيسىlike Jesus نبىِّthe prophet اللَّهِof God تُشْفَىare healed بهthrough him المرضَىthe sick
And the one through whom the world strutted proudly before its own people,
And one through whom the world vaunts itself over its inhabitants—
like Jesus, God’s prophet: through him the sick are healed.
like Jesus, the prophet of God, through him the sick are healed.
