At the death of the chosen one, overflowing with goodwill,
With the death of Al-Murtada, the pleased became sorrowful
every upright friend of God felt pain.
Every close friend and loyal companion was pained

And all endowed with faith and reason came to live
And every person of religion and intellect

And it plunged every person of knowledge and forbearance into grief,
And every person of knowledge and forbearance grew dim
and clouded all that was beloved and desirable.
And every beloved, radiant one was saddened

And the firmly rooted mountains nearly toppled from their places,
The foundations were nearly shaken
falling upon the low mounds and peaks.
From their places, and every living being was stricken

توفِّى طاهرُ الجيبِ التقىّ
On a Saturday morning in Rabi',
A thousand and three hundred years had passed
the pure-hearted, God-fearing man passed away.
From the gone by ages

And a thousand, with three, had elapsed,
So it is no wonder if my eyelids
with seventy counted among the years gone by.

No wonder, then, if my eyelids overflow
Nor is it shameful if we die of sorrow
with blood after losing the God-fearing one.
