وذو الحلم لا تقذى الأراجيف قلبه

وذو الحلم لا تقذى الأراجيف قلبه

صَمُودٌ لو انهدَّت عليه الرواسخُ

صَمُودٌ لو انهدَّت عليه الرواسخُ

And false rumors do not trouble the forbearing man's heart.

He of forbearance, slander harms not his heart,

Steadfast, even if the firm-set mountains were to collapse upon him.

Steadfast though razed were every rampart.

ولا تَطِّبِيه دعوة من مُخاتِل

ولا تَطِّبِيه دعوة من مُخاتِل

ولا ناسخ القول الذي قال ناسخُ

ولا ناسخ القول الذي قال ناسخُ

Nor does an invitation from a deceiver entice him.

Seduce him not any foe's proferred hand,

Nor is he one who copies the words a copyist has spoken.

Nor they who retract what another planned.
