أكلّفُ نفسي الصبرَ بعدَ فراقِكم

أكلّفُ نفسي الصبرَ بعدَ فراقِكم

وأنِّى لنا مِن بعد فرقتكم صَبْرُ

وأنِّى لنا مِن بعد فرقتكم صَبْرُ

I force myself to be patient after parting from you.

And how can we have patience after separation from you?

كأنَّ الأسَى والحزنَ والشوق والهوى

كأنَّ الأسَى والحزنَ والشوق والهوى

تودّ فؤادِى والفؤادُ لها قبرُ

تودّ فؤادِى والفؤادُ لها قبرُ

It is as though sorrow, grief, longing, and love

desire my heart, and my heart is their grave.

لقد ضاقَتْ الدنيا عليَّ بأسْرِها

لقد ضاقَتْ الدنيا عليَّ بأسْرِها

كأنَّ قُرَابَ الأرض مِن بَعدكم شِبْرُ

كأنَّ قُرَابَ الأرض مِن بَعدكم شِبْرُ

Indeed, the whole world has grown narrow around me,

As though the earth's expanse, since your departure, were a handspan.
