أُرقرقُI let trickle دَمعيmy tears كَيso that أُبرِّدَI may cool غُلَّةًa burning thirst
أُرقرقُ دَمعي كَي أُبرِّدَ غُلَّةً
بِقَلبٍin a heart عَلىupon جَمِرthe embers الهُمومِof sorrows مُقَلَّبِtossed about
بِقَلبٍ عَلى جَمِر الهُمومِ مُقَلَّبِ
I let my tears trickle to cool a burning thirst
My tears flow that I may cool
In a heart tossed upon the embers of sorrow.
A heart tossed on the burning coals of cares,
خَفوقٌbeating بمثلequal to الخافقينِthe eastern and western horizons تَرحُّباًin spaciousness
خَفوقٌ بمثل الخافقينِ تَرحُّباً
وَإِنand even though ضمَّهُencloses it ضَنكٌconstriction مِنfrom المتقلَّبِthe space to move about
وَإِن ضمَّهُ ضَنكٌ مِن المتقلَّبِ
It beats, as expansive as the eastern and western horizons,
Fluttering like the fluttering sails
And though narrow confines hem it in.
Even though anguish closes it in from all sides.
