وَتجافَتand drew apart جُفونُthe eyelids of عَينيmy eye سُهداًin sleeplessness
حينwhen عُلِّمنَthey were taught مِنfrom جَفاكَyour estrangement الجَفاءَestrangement
And the lids of my eye drew apart in sleeplessness,
when your estrangement taught them estrangement.
وَكأَنّيand as though I مِمّاfrom how تَناءَتdrew apart جُفونيmy eyelids
لاحِظٌgazing at وَردَthe roses of وَجنتيكyour two cheeks اجتِناءَfor gathering
And with my eyelids so far apart, it is as though I
gaze at the roses of your cheeks to gather them.
وَكأَنَّand as though الجفونَthe eyelids ترقبُawait وَعداًa promise
بالتَلاقيof meeting فَلاso do not تَرومُseek التقاءَa meeting
And it is as though the eyelids await a promise
of meeting, so they do not seek to meet.
