داجي النَواحي مظلم الأَثباجِ
In a dwelling, black as night, coal-black,
In a house as black as the darkest night
Dark at its sides, gloomy in its midst,
Gloomy on all sides, dimly lit
يَسودُّis black وَالزَهراءُwhile al-Zahra تشرقshines حولهaround it
يَسودُّ وَالزَهراءُ تشرق حوله
كالحبرlike ink أُودعَwas placed فيin دواةِan inkwell العاجِivory
كالحبر أُودعَ في دواةِ العاجِ
It is black, while al-Zahra shines around it,
It is dark while al-Zahra shine all around
Like ink placed in an ivory inkwell.
