O reproacher, do the tribes receive their share

of death, or has death singled us out alone?

O reproacher, who will inhabit Fayf and Fayhah,

and Thawr, and who will guard al-Makabil after us?

O reproacher, the clan has left the hills of al-Qura,

and the people of al-Su'ayb's valley bend have already departed.

So the deluded man persisted until I bought them:

    long-milking, short-eared she-camels from Bahim and A'yan.

They have an abundant flow of milk in winter, and a surge

that delights you if the Two Forearms' rain-time grows overcast.

Nor did the noble, high-humped camels make Musafi' immortal,

nor did the white camels that remained care for Mihjan.

O reproacher, those two were a shield to shelter behind,

and two battle-spears defending our protected ground.
