قالَتshe said عُمَيرَةُʿUmayrah ماwhat يُلهيكَdistracts you عَنfrom غَنَميmy flock
قالَت عُمَيرَةُ ما يُلهيكَ عَن غَنَمي
وَقَدand already حَلَلتُI have settled مَعَwith المِعزِيَةِthe goats الحاديal-Ḥādī
وَقَد حَلَلتُ مَعَ المِعزِيَةِ الحادي
ʿUmayrah said, “What distracts you from my flock,
'Umayrah said, "What distracts you from my sheep
when I have settled with the goats at al-Ḥādī?”
When I have made peace with the shepherdess neighbor?
يَكفيكَsuffices for you مَكفاتَهاtheir upkeep إِنif حَجرَةٌa lean year أَزَمَتbit hard
يَكفيكَ مَكفاتَها إِن حَجرَةٌ أَزَمَت
حُمزٌhardy beasts تَحَيَّزهاgathered them together جَمعيmy acquired stock وَإِتلاديand my inherited stock
حُمزٌ تَحَيَّزها جَمعي وَإِتلادي
Their upkeep will be met for you, should a lean year bite,
It should suffice you how I pay her back: when a ewe gets lost
by hardy beasts gathered from my acquired and inherited stock:
A ram gets separated from the flock and my newborn lambs.
قَعرِيَةٌa lowland herd أَكَلَتgrazed أَشحىAshḥā وَمَدفَعَهُand its outlet
قَعرِيَةٌ أَكَلَت أَشحى وَمَدفَعَهُ
أَكنافَthe flanks of أَشحىAshḥā وَلَمand not تُعقَلwere tethered بِأَقيادِwith fetters
أَكنافَ أَشحى وَلَم تُعقَل بِأَقيادِ
A lowland herd that grazed Ashḥā and its outlet,
A sly one who ate the saltbush and its shoots
the flanks of Ashḥā, never bound with fetters.
The outskirts of the saltbush, yet was not tethered."
