نحنwe الأَخايِلُthe Akhayil ماnot يزالُceases غُلامُناour young man
حتّىuntil يَدِبَّhobbles علىon العصاthe staff مَذْكُوراrenowned
We are the Akhayil; our young man remains
We warriors, while our steed its youth still keeps
renowned until he hobbles, leaning on a staff.
Until, supported by his staff, decrepit creeps,
تبكيweep الرِّماحthe spears إذاwhen فَقَدْنَthey lose أكفَّناour palms
جَزَعاًin anguish وتَعْلَمُناand know us الرّفاقُthe companions بُحُوراas seas
The spears weep when they lose our hands,
Will mourn when missing hands that held the lance,
in anguish, and companions know us as seas.
And friends will know us by our fluent speech.
والسيفُand the sword يَعْلَمُknows أنّناthat we إخْوانُهُits brothers
حَرّانthirsty إذْwhen يَلْقىmeets العِظامَthe bones بَتُوراkeenly cleaving
And the sword knows that we are its brothers,
The sword knows we are brethren true and tried
thirsting as it meets the bones, cleaving them through.
When clashing on bare bones its edge is plied,
وَلَنَحْنُand indeed we أَوْثَقُmore trusted فيin صُدُورِthe hearts of نِسائِكُمْyour women
مِنْكُمْthan you إذاwhen بَكَرَcomes early الصُّراخُthe outcry بُكُوراearly in the morning
And indeed, we are more trusted in your women's hearts
And we're more cherished in your ladies' hearts
than you, when the outcry rises early in the morning.
Than you, when earliest breaks the wail at dawn.
