وذِي حاجَةٍ قُلْنا لَهُ لا تَبُحْ بها

وذِي حاجَةٍ قُلْنا لَهُ لا تَبُحْ بها

فَلَيْسَ إليها ما حَيِيتَ سَبِيلُ

فَلَيْسَ إليها ما حَيِيتَ سَبِيلُ

And to one with a desire we said: Do not reveal it;

For there is no way to it as long as you live.

لَنا صاحِبٌ لا يَنْبَغي أَنْ نَخُونَهُ

لَنا صاحِبٌ لا يَنْبَغي أَنْ نَخُونَهُ

وَأَنْتَ لأَخْرى فارِغٌ وحَليلُ

وَأَنْتَ لأَخْرى فارِغٌ وحَليلُ

We have a companion whom we ought not betray,

And you are at leisure for another woman, and are her husband.

تَخالُكَ تَهْوى غَيْرَها فكأنّها

تَخالُكَ تَهْوى غَيْرَها فكأنّها

لها مِن تَظَنِّيها عَلَيْكَ دَلِيلُ

لها مِن تَظَنِّيها عَلَيْكَ دَلِيلُ

She thinks you love someone other than her, as though she

Had, from her suspicions, proof against you.
