لِفارِسٍ أَتْلَفْتُمُوهُ ما خُلِفْ
I recognized you, as tears dripped from my eye,
I knew you as tears flowed from my eyes
For a horseman you slew, who has not been replaced.
For a knight you loved who was no more

Indeed, boiled meat, roast meat, and loaves,
Bread dipped in stew, roasted meat
And the beautiful singing girl, and the untouched wine-cup,
A beautiful jug and overflowing cup

The choicest stew and hastily served bread
Belong to those who spear horses while the horses take short strides,
For warriors whose horses were plucked off

Running with battle’s weaklings, and galloping onward,
Galloping with the nausea of battle raging
Like gazelles running through the soft sands of curving dunes.
Foe of gazelles in the meadows of sand dunes
