أَرىI see عَبدَʿAbd عَمرٍوʿAmr قَدalready أَساطَstirred ابنَthe son of عَمَّهِhis paternal uncle
وَأَنضَجَهُand cooked him through فيin غَليِthe boiling of قَدرٍa pot وَماand not يَدريhe knows
I see ʿAbd ʿAmr has stirred his cousin,
I see the slave of Amr has slain his cousin
and cooked him in a boiling pot, while he remains unaware.
And cooked him in a boiling pot though unaware
فَهَلاّthen why not اِبنَthe son of حَسحاسٍḤasḥās قَتَلتَyou killed وَمَعبَداًand Maʿbad
هُماthose two تَركاكَthey both left you لاnot تَريشُyou feather arrows وَلاand not تَبريyou whittle shafts
Why, then, did you not kill Ibn Ḥasḥās and Maʿbad?
Why not instead you killed Ibn Haschas and Ma'bad
Those two left you unable to feather arrows or whittle their shafts.
Who left you featherless and plucked bare
هُماthose two طَعَناthey both stabbed مَولاكَyour lord فيin خَرجِthe opening of دُبرِهِhis backside
وَأَقَبلتَand you came ماnot تَلويyou turn aside عَلىtoward مَحجَرٍa refuge تَجريyou run
Those two stabbed your lord in the opening of his backside,
They stabbed your master in the back in his retreat
and you came running, turning aside for no refuge.
Yet you proceed unflinching, your tears flowing unchecked
