    We, we are towering honor.

The charging serpent—the youth of the Nile.

    Rise, rise—enough, you sleeper!

Look, look beside you, O reproacher!

Your glory has departed, and your honor is lost.

When will you rise as the Nile rises?

We drive off the obstacle stretched across our path.

We defend the Nile's watering places.

    We ourselves defend our homeland.

We die, and the Nile lives on.

We do not hide; we need no prompting.

We measure out and shoulder the load ourselves.

We are the clay and the season's rain.

We are the valley whose lightning flashes.

We are the onslaught, the swords of the state.

    We are Isma'il's quiver.

His lofty gate and his treasured honor—

His shade was ample for our forefathers.

O our rulers, bring the proof!

    Or clear off—stop the bluster!

This is my cousin, and this one shares my blood.

What are you—a parasite, an intruder?

O our guests, honor your obligations.

How can the nation's humiliation be borne?

They took our rights and clamped our throats shut.

These people want our blood to flow.

Since we first emerged, we have risen and grown.

We have never acted basely over a trifle.

There is no longer 'Egyptian' or 'Sudanese'—

We are all children of the Nile.
