  1. أذكر بقعة امدرمان

    وانشر في ربوعنا أمان

    Remember the land of Omdurman,

    And spread safety throughout our lands.

  2. ذكر يا شبابي زمان

    درانا ودار أبونا زمان

    Recall bygone days, O my youth.

    Our home, and our father's home long ago;

  3. فيها رفات جدودنا كمان

    ما بنساك خلقة ضمان

    Within it lie our ancestors' remains too.

    I will never forget you—that is a pledge.

  4. جنة وحور حماك أمان

    ذكر يا شبابي زمان

    A paradise and houris; your sanctuary is safe.

    Recall bygone days, O my youth.

  5. بطرى الاسسوك زمان

    كانوا نحاف جسوم ما سمان

    I remember those who founded you long ago.

    They were lean of body, not fat.

  6. كانوا يحلحلوا الغرمان

    يساهروا يتفقدوا الصرمان

    They would ease the plight of debtors,

    Stay up at night, checking on the penniless.

  7. ذكر يا شبابي زمان

    في السودان فتيح معروف

    Recall bygone days, O my youth.

    In Sudan, Fiteih is well known,

  8. ولسه بعنجة خوره سروف

    ود نوباوي زول معروف

    And still, at Anja, its stream runs full.

    Wad Nubawi, a well-known man;

  9. باقي وديك مشارع ابروف

    ذكر يا شبابي زمان

    And yonder remain Abu Rof's river landings.

    Recall bygone days, O my youth.

  10. كانوا جبال مكان وتقال

    نزلوا اتربعوا الأركان

    They were mountains, steadfast and weighty.

    They settled, taking their seats in the quarters,

  11. خلوا البقعة كل مكان

    آهلة ورازة بالسكان

    And made every part of the place

    Inhabited and firmly settled with people.

  12. ذكر يا شبابي زمان

    ليه ياكعبة العربان

    Recall bygone days, O my youth.

    Why, O Kaaba of the Arab tribes,

  13. غاضبة وفين عريسك بان

    قبال نسأل الركبان

    Are you angry—and where has your bridegroom appeared?

    Before we ask the riders,

  14. حبك من حسودك بان

    ذكر يا شبابي زمان

    Your lover has become distinct from your envier.
